At Paper Transport (PTI), health and wellness aren’t just words—they’re part of our culture, thanks to the efforts of our in-house nurse, Jesse. With a background in comprehensive wellness and preventive care, Nurse Jesse has been supporting PTI employees—both drivers and office staff—since 2020, creating personalized plans, offering workshops, and providing the kind of one-on-one support that makes her role truly unique.
A Well-Rounded Approach to Wellness
Nurse Jesse’s role goes far beyond the traditional idea of healthcare. Her vision for our wellness program is all-encompassing, addressing physical, emotional, and financial well-being. New professional drivers joining our team meet Nurse Jesse during orientation and learn about the benefits of stretching and wellness practices and how they can incorporate stretches into their daily routines. She records weekly stretching and breathing sessions for drivers to access and use on the road.
Beyond that, her support for drivers often includes creating nutrition and fitness plans or acting as an accountability partner. “Drivers mainly use me to develop health plans and stay on track,” Nurse Jesse says. “I focus on building connections so I can be a resource for nearly everything—health, wellness, and even emotional support.”
Nurse Jesse also coordinates workshops on nutrition, gut health, and mindfulness, with plans to expand offerings and topics in 2025. More so, she offers personal training and for employees on PTI’s health plan, she’s helped organize an incentive program for annual physicals that, in its first year, caught a cancer diagnosis early—a life-saving result of this proactive approach.
For Nurse Jesse, Paper Transport’s intentional culture of support and mutual respect stands out among the rest. “Knowing our drivers and staff have a whole team behind them makes all the difference,” she shares. Whether it’s helping employees feel confident about reaching out or offering resources tailored to their needs, Nurse Jesse emphasizes that her approach is about meeting people where they are—both physically and emotionally.
“It’s not like going to the doctor—it’s like calling a friend,” she says. “This is a judgment-free zone where everyone is validated and supported.”
Tips for Setting Goals in 2024
As the new year begins, many people are thinking about setting resolutions. Nurse Jesse has advice to help you set goals that will actually stick:
Whether you’re on the road or at the office, small changes can make a big difference in seeing change. Nurse Jesse recommends listening to your body and understanding what it’s asking for—often, there are healthier ways to meet those needs. “You’re the captain of your ship,” she says. “Taking time to work with yourself, for yourself, is essential.”
As you look ahead to 2024, Nurse Jesse encourages everyone to connect with what drives them. “PTI’s slogan, What Drives You® is spot on,” she says. “Honing in on what makes you passionate and alive is key. Create a life on the road, not just a living.”
With Nurse Jesse’s guidance, PTI continues to lead the way in employee wellness, ensuring that every team member—driver or non-driver—has the resources and support they need to thrive.
